With his blood-curdling character of Cyrus in Unni Mukundan’s action-thriller Marco, Bollywood actor Kabir Duhan Singh has arguably created one of Malayalam cinema’s brutal villains. Though the film only has his character make an appearance in the second half, it was more than enough to elevate the violence in the film – something that most of the audience who had watched in the movie in theatres wouldn’t forget for a while.

Haneef Adeni’s Marco is incidentally the third Malayalam venture for Kabir this year – after Tovino Thomas’ Ajayante Randam Moshanam, where he played a character in the 1700s, and Mammootty’s Turbo, in which he was seen as the chief lieutenant of Raj B Shetty’s main antagonist.

Though the other villain appearances didn’t quite leave an impact, his role as Cyrus, who pretty much annihilates the entire family of the titular character in the film, shook him to the core as well, admits Kabir.

In a recent interview promoting Marco, Kabir said that the scene he found the most challenging to do in the movie, was that of killing a pregnant lady, essayed by Durva Thaker. The sequence incidentally was also toned down in the final theatrical version of Marco, after incorporating the suggested cuts by CBFC.

“I was disturbed, I couldn't sleep for 4-5 days after the shoot,” said Kabir. “I had talked to my wife also to convey this. When I finished shooting Marco, I took a break and went to Uttarakhand. I visited six temples and stayed there for three days. It's only after that I flew to Delhi and came back to Mumbai. I wanted to relax my mind.”

Kabir Duhan Singh hopes to do more Malayalam movies

Post the film’s release, Kabir has been receiving a lot of appreciation from the fans. The actor said this encourages him to be part of better Malayalam films in the future.

“If you win the love of the audience in Kerala, it's like you have the won love of people across the world,” he explained. “After Marco, the Malayali audience have accepted me; they will never leave me. I have acted in three Malayalam films this year and all three have done well. I will try and ensure that I do great work here, and people will keep appreciating me for my roles."
