Marco star Unni Mukundan set for his Bollywood debut after pan-Indian success?

Marco star Unni Mukundan has reportedly signed projects with several leading South filmmakers and will also be working in a Bollywood action film, according to sources.

Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan’s star is shining bright post the pan-Indian success of his action thriller Marco. The actor, who had previously worked only in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu film industries, will now be collaborating with Bollywood as well as a Kannada filmmaker, according to sources close to him.

Unni’s recent film Marco, which has grossed over Rs 100 Cr worldwide and its Hindi version itself collected Rs 13 Cr, has opened doors for the actor in various industries. And from what we hear, his Bollywood debut is imminent.

Unni Mukundan to make his Hindi debut with an action film?

The Malayalam star is reportedly already in discussions for a Bollywood project, which will be an action film, according to a source close to the actor. In an interview during the promotions of Marco in Mumbai, Unni had also opened up about his Bollywood ambitions, including his wish to direct Hrithik Roshan in an action film.

Apart from his Bollywood debut, the actor will also be reuniting with Garudan director RS Durai Senthilkumar and a Kannada director – both for action films. There were also rumours of him teaming up with Chiyaan Vikram for a movie, after the photos of the duo’s meeting along with the Sree Gokulam Movies representative went viral. The film will reportedly be a Tamil-Malayalam bilingual, but further details are awaited.

Unni’s upcoming Malayalam projects include Gandharva Jr that is confirmed and a few more with noted directors. The sequel of Marco is also very much on the cards.

Unni Mukundan on Marco’s success in North India

Meanwhile, Unni had recently talked to OTTplay about what the success of Marco in North India and what it meant to him, considering he had spent most of his childhood in Gujarat.

“I don’t think I have conquered (North Indian market),” he said. “The gravity of success between Malayalam to Telugu is very different. But yes, something new has happened. We have left an impression. My only high was to go to Gujarat and watch the movie with my friends in Hindi. Watching them enjoy it, not just as my friends but also as cine-goers was exciting. Getting that different kind of high, after being in the industry for 14 years, was something special.” The actor's next release will be Vinay Govind's Get Set Baby, which also has Nikhila Vimal.
