Unni Mukundan in a still from Marco
Marco, starring Unni Mukundan, has notched up the title for being one of the most violent films from Malayalam. With its arms-wielding macho men and bloody violence that even did not spare the children, Haneef Adeni’s film is definitely not for the faint hearted. But the film had more violent content which got toned down after the Censor Board’s recommendations, according to Marco producer Shareef Muhammed. Read on to know what the producer of the brutally violent film has to say.
In a recent interview with the Red FM Malayalam, Marco producer Shareef Muhammed spoke about the violent content of the A-rated movie which had to make some changes after the Censor Board’s recommendations.
"The Censor team has not fully cut down the violence. They have only reduced the brutality. All violent scenes will have a varying range of brutality. And whenever the brutality was high, the Censor Board recommended to reduce it,” he explained.
While pointing out that the board has not cut out huge scenes from the movie, the producer said that brutality, however, was reduced. “It was more brutal, in some scenes. But that the Censor cut as it is against their rules,” he added.
The action thriller marks the production debut of Shareef Muhammed, who is also reportedly in talks with Mammootty for an upcoming project. However, neither the producer nor the megastar has confirmed this.
Unni Mukundan-starrer Marco released in theatres on December 20, 2024, and has been receiving an overwhelming response. The action thriller collected over Rs 10 crore on day 1 making a terrific opening at the box office.
Unni Mukundan plays the titular character who unleashes his savage avatar after a tragedy strikes. The film also features Jagadish as the antagonist Tony Isaac and Abhimanyu Thilakan as Tony's son Russell.
Marco, which is a spin-off of director Adeni’s Mikhael, also features Siddique who had also been a part of the 2019 film along with Unni Mukundan.
