Unni Mukundan’s Marco, which has already broken records at the Kerala box office, is all set to hit theatres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh soon. Makers have announced its release date
Malayalam movie Marco, which has already been touted as one of the most violent action films in India along with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Lakshya’s Kill, is all set to release in Telugu soon.
The Malayalam version of the film, which had hit theatres on December 20, has already gone on to make over Rs 35 crore worldwide in its first four days, despite its A rating and violent content.
By the end of the weekend, Marco had already grossed over Rs 2.2 crore from centres apart from Kerala, with just the Malayalam and Hindi versions. The makers will be looking to push this with the release of its Telugu version, which is set to hit theatres on January 1, 2025.
Unni is already a familiar face to the Telugu audience, having starred in superhits such as Anushka Shetty’s Bhaagamathie, Jr NTR’s Janatha Garage, Ravi Teja’s Khiladi and Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s Yashoda in 2022.
With the Telugu audience traditionally supportive of action films, it remains to be seen how much the film can make in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the new year. What will work for the Malayalam movie is that Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule is nearing the end of its run, and Ram Charan’s Game Changer will hit theatres only on January 10. This means that the Haneef Adeni directorial will get a good run for at least a week in theatres in the Telugu states.
Though the dubbing rights and OTT rights of Marco weren’t sold pre-release, the success of the film has helped the makers land a good deal for these. According to sources from the film’s team, the Telugu rights for Marco were sold for Rs 3 crore along with a share of the theatrical revenue.
The movie revolves around a ruthless youngster, who seeks revenge for the murder of his brother by a faction of a gold syndicate that his elder brother is also part of. Marco also has Kabir Duhan Singh, Jagadeesh, Siddique and Anson Paul as part of the cast.
