Unni Mukundan’s actioner Marco, despite its A-rating for violence, is creating new box office milestones for a film from the Malayalam movie industry. After grossing Rs 50 Cr in less than a week , the movie is now on track to be the highest-grossing Malayalam movie in North India.

While Manjummel Boys, which is the highest-grossing Malayalam movie ever with a worldwide box office collection close to Rs 242 Cr, took home Rs 2.7 Cr in 50 days of its theatrical run, Marco has already made Rs 0.90 Cr in a week, according to industry trackers Sacnilk.

Marco Day 7 box office collection sees a slump

Marco, meanwhile, witnessed its biggest slump in domestic box office since its release on Day 7, with it being a weekday. The film, however, still took home Rs 2.5 Cr in revenue – a good figure for a violent actioner, especially a week after its release.

Marco’s North Indian box office battle could get easier, with Varun Dhawan’s Baby John getting mixed to negative reviews, and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule nearing the end of its theatrical run. Pushpa 2 is set for an OTT release in the first week of February 202 5 on Netflix.

The Unni Mukundan film, which is an all-out, brutal action-thriller, also had its Hindi release along with the original Malayalam version on December 20. The movie, however, played only in limited centres in North India – specifically in New Delhi and Mumbai. If the makers could extend the reach of the film to other rural belts, it could also lead to better box-office earnings as the action genre appeals to all kinds of audiences.

Marco’s domestic run leads to break-even figures

The film has already collected close to Rs 30 Cr in domestic box office. Made on a budget of Rs 30 Cr, the actioner is helmed by Haneef Adeni, who had earlier directed Mammootty’s The Great Father and Nivin Pauly’s Mikhael. Marco is also set to get a Telugu version, which will hit theatres on January 1, 2025.
