Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, who is widely known for his legendary directorials like—Aamir Khan-starrer Lagaan (2001), Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Swades (2004), Hrithik Roshan-starrer Jodhaa Akbar (2008) and Mohenjo Daro (2016), is returning to acting with the upcoming crime thriller series—Manvat Murders. For the unversed, Gowariker has previously acted in films like SRK’s Chamatkar (1992), Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1994), and Priyanka Chopra’s production—Ventilator (2016).
Manvat Murders, the upcoming Hindi crime thriller series is coming soon on October 4, 2024, only on SonyLIV. Interestingly, you can also watch the drama through OTTplay Premium. The crime drama is a SonyLIV Original series, and will be available in seven languages—Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali.
Directed by Ashish Bende, apart from Ashutosh Gowariker in the lead role, Manvat Murders also stars Sonali Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Makarand Anaspure, Kishor Kadam, and Mayur Khandge in pivotal roles. The 60-year-old filmmaker will be seen as a determined police officer.
According to the makers, Manvat Murders is based on real-life crime that sent shockwaves through the whole Maharashtra state in the 1970s. The horrific incident, which involved a series of brutal killings. The story delves into the depths of human depravity, exploring the motivations behind the heinous acts and the subsequent investigation that sought to bring justice to the victims.
The fictional story of Manvat Murders is about seven unsolved murders that have cast a dark shadow over the state for the past one-and-a-half-year, and police inspector Ramakant S Kulkarni is determined to shed light on these cases and restore justice.
The trailer of the crime drama exhibits a woman in her thirties facing premature menopause. Desperate to have a child, she turns into a fraudulent practitioner, who suggests a disturbing ritual, involving human sacrifice. According to the practitioner, virgins should be offered to Munjaba, a man-made spirit of an unmarried Brahmin boy. This bone-chilling narrative highlights how the real-life murders occurred between 1972 to 1974 in Manawat, a small village in Maharashtra. Five young girls, an infant, and four women were tragically killed according to police reports.
