All three movies are expected to release on the streaming platform in July
While international streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have been picking up the big Malayalam films, regional OTT platform Manorama Max has been acquiring the streaming rights several recent releases that have managed to do decently in theatres.
The OTT platform has bagged the rights of Jayaram and Meera Jasmine’s family entertainer Makal, Jayasurya’s investigative thriller John Luther and Indrajith Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu’s crime drama Pathaam Valavu recently. All three films released in theatres in the past two months and are expected to have their OTT premiere in July.
Makal, which is directed by Sathyan Anthikad, revolves around the different bonds a daughter shares with her father and mother, and is a comedy entertainer that also has Devika Sanjay and Naslen Gafoor in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, both John Luther and Pathaam Valavu are thrillers. The Jayasurya-starrer has the lead actor playing a cop who is tasked with the investigation of a series of man-missing cases when he suffers hearing loss. How he manages to overcome the challenge and narrow down the culprit form the plot of the film, directed by debutant Abhijith Joseph.
Pathaam Valavu, which is helmed by M Padmakumar and written by Abhilash Joshiy, is inspired by true incidents. The movie has Indrajith playing a cop who is out to track down a convict who has violated the terms of his parole. Suraj plays the convict in the movie, which released in theatres in May. All the films are also expected to be available on Amazon Prime Video after they drop on Manorama Max.
Meanwhile, the regional streaming platform is also gearing up for the release of his direct-to-OTT film titled In, which has Deepti Sati and Madhupal in central roles. The suspense thriller, which will drop on July 8, is helmed by Thrissur Pooram and Salt Mango Tree director Rajesh Nair.
