Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, 'Killer Soup' stars Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sen Sharma in lead roles.
Renowned actors Konkana SenSharma and Manoj Bajpayee have teamed up for a web series titled The Killer Soup. The Gangs of Wasseypur actor recently discussed playing a double role in the show and how he didn't have time to get into the skin and come out of his characters during a press conference.
Manoj said, "I used to be the first one to arrive on the set to get the prosthetics done for one character, Parmesh. So till lunch, you are doing Parmesh, after lunch, you are doing Umesh and in the evening you are doing you're acting as Prabhakar. So there was no luxury of getting into the skin of the character. There was no luxury of walking on it and remembering the arc of the character but rather every moment was very very challenging, I always say one thing you can ask the Al Pacinos of the world to come here and work and give an equally great performance that they are giving for so many years because our situation is really weak."
Manoj Bajpayee on comparison of Hollywood actors with Indian actors
The actor further compared working for an Indian cinema with Hollywood projects saying, "Hollywood me to Umesh hoga to sirf Umesh hoga aur phir Prabhakar aaega toh baadme kuch din gap lekar ke aur paise bhi lega. So that is the biggest motivation but vo sab motivation humare yaha nahi hoti, humare yaha sirf kala ki Puja hoti hai." (In Hollywood, if Umesh is there, only Umesh will be there, and then Prabhakar will come, taking a break for a few days and also taking extra money. So, that is the biggest motivation, but we don't have such motivations here; here, we only have the worship of art.)
The Netflix series, The Killer Soup, which stars Manoj Bajpayee and Konkona Sensharma is all set to premiere on January 11 and is partially based on true events. A Telangana woman killed her husband in 2017 and then pretended to be her late spouse. A fatal difference in eating preferences—indicated by a bowl of mutton soup—was what ultimately exposed them. Reports from the time said that the identity-switching Allu Arjun film Yevadu (2014), a remarkable example of cinema feeding into life and feeding back out, served as inspiration for the original criminals.
