Speaking at the trailer launch of the film in Mumbai earlier today, Manoj opened up about the challenges and liberties that an actor can take while narrating such a character on screen. He spoke in Hindi that roughly translated to, “The biggest challenge in portraying a great personality on screen - somebody who is popular and much talked-about in the world, whose daily life pictures and videos are always in circulation - is that you try to ace the external image of that person. The focus remains on how this person sits, walks, talks or eats. But when you are essaying the role of a common man, who has made a great achievement in life and whose journey has been quite interesting, the advantage for an artiste like me is that I can in some ways put a perspective on that character. For that, I don’t need to be with that person or spend time with him to be able to mimic his personality, externally.”
Adding to that, the Padma Shri awardee said, “While playing PC Solanki in Bandaa my focus has been to understand and grasp his inner psyche. When he took this case in hand, what was his state of mind; what was he thinking while dealing with the case. Did he feel vulnerable or weak at any point, where did he derive his strength from. These are areas I have tried to pay more attention to while working on this character.”
