Lately making headlines for what seems to be his yet another path-breaking performance - ZEE5’s upcoming courtroom drama film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai - acclaimed actor Manoj Bajpayee has more reasons to rejoice! Director Devashish Makhija’s much talked-about survival thriller film - Joram - the story of which revolves around a displaced indigenous man, named Darsu, is ready to be screened at the Sydney Film Festival next month.

Also starring Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, alongside Tannishtha Chatterjee and Rajshri Deshpande in supporting roles, Joram traces the journey of a father, who is on the run with his little daughter, trying to ‘escape the ghosts from his past and the forces that want him dead’.

The Gulmohar actor shared the latest update about his film on Instagram. “#Joram is here and ready to take the world by storm at this year’s @sydfilmfest! 🔥 Can’t wait for you to witness the amazing journey. ✨🎞️”, Manoj wrote.

It’s the third time that Manoj has collaborated with Devashish - the earlier ones being Taandav (2016) and Bhonsle (2019). Joram was also part of the ‘FBR section’ of the ‘Viewing Room’ at NFDC’s Film Bazaar in 2022. Scheduled to take place between June 7 and June 18, the prestigious Sydney Film Festival is celebrating its 70th edition this year.

Commenting on his character in the film, Manoj told ANI “Joram is a riveting story of a man torn between his past and present. I loved playing the intricate character, Darsu, whose past and present have a significant contrast. On the outside, he looks like an ordinary man that people may not even notice, but in no way is he a common man! It’s a brilliant story with impactful characters. It’s always been a pleasure working with Zee Studios and Devashish Makhija.”

Meanwhile, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai - directed by Apoorv Singh Karki - is releasing on May 23. Said to be inspired by true events, the film ran into legal trouble recently when Asaram Bapu’s charitable trust slapped the makers with a notice, claiming that the movie “is highly objectionable and defamatory, and can tarnish Asaram’s reputation and hit sentiments of his devotees and followers”. The the self-styled godman is currently serving life sentence in a Jodhpur jail for raping a minor girl.
