The actor shared his thoughts on censorship on OTT at the Jaipur Literature Festival.
Manoj Bajpayee said on Friday that OTT platforms have a wide range of content, and that what viewers see and don't see is entirely up to them. He added that OTT platforms have given filmmakers and viewers the flexibility to choose and view content on the platform.
According to IANS, during a discussion at the Jaipur Literature Festival, Bajpayee said that it's similar to a train station where some kiosks sell vulgar novels and others sell literature books. The actor asked, "Did everyone go out and buy some obscene books?" He said that no, they didn't buy any vulgar novels; they purchased books on literature.
Bajpayee added that the viewers should have this choice and freedom. There will be no decent work done unless one does not offer such freedom.
Parents, according to Bajpayee, are the most powerful censors in Indian society. He said if parents can't care for their children, don't put the blame on the director; put the blame on yourself.
The Aligarh actor went on to say that they are all aware of what's beneficial for them and what's not. Bajpayee recommended that you skip it if you don't want to see adult things or if you are in a bad mood. Viewers and directors should have this kind of freedom.
He went on to add that OTT has given him the opportunity to work in any genre and to hire directors who have the ability to create material that people have never seen or experienced before.
The films he has finished and worked on over the previous two years are significantly different from one another. The actor revealed that some films are aimed towards a specific audience or festival circuit. Some films are intended for the entire nation, while others are intended for people of all ages. Some films are intended solely for adults. What he loves about this OTT model is that it has given him the opportunity to do all genres, choose filmmakers that are very different from one another, and really come up with something that people have never seen or experienced.
