Manjummel Boys, Poacher to Malaikottai Vaaliban: Malayalam movies, series to watch on OTT, theatres this week

Here is a list of much-awaited films and web series that are releasing this week on OTT platforms and in theatres.

With the release of several highly anticipated films this month, theatres are having a great time as a large number of people flock to the big screens. During the last two weeks, theatres have seen housefull shows and incredible advance booking rates for films like Mammootty's Bramayugam and Tovino Thomas' Anweshippin Kandethum. Girish AD's romantic comedy Premalu, which proved to be a surprising hit this year, is also playing well in theatres.

February has not seen any Malayalam films released on digital platforms, aside from Queen Elizabeth, starring Meera Jasmine and Narain. Here is a list of films and web series that are releasing this week on OTT platforms and in theatres.

Manjummel Boys (Theatrical Release)

Manjummel Boys is about eleven best friends from Manjummel, Ernakulum, who decide to travel to Kodaikanal. The movie primarily focuses on their friendship and how this trip, combined with an unexpected event, changes their lives. The movie is based on a true story about a youngster who fell into the famous Guna Caves, also called Devil's Kitchen, in Kodaikanal.

Family (Theatrical Release)

The protagonist of the story is a young man named Sony. Having dropped out of college with a B.Ed. he works odd jobs around town. Although Sony is frequently viewed as intelligent, his true nature differs greatly from his appearance. Despite being informed of his wrongdoings, his family is kept silent by the system. The film's goal is to demonstrate how the family system works in connection to internal crimes.

Malaikottai Vaaliban (Disney+ Hotstar)

Vaaliban, a wandering warrior, along with his mentor and brother engages in duels to establish his dominance on various lands. But an unlikely opponent named Chamathakan emerges from a duel; he is the exact opposite of everything that the valiant Vaaliban stands for. What part does this cunning adversary play as Vaaliban makes his way home to face his greatest obstacle and those closest to him who are now his enemies?

Poacher (Amazon Prime)

The events portrayed in Poacher, a fictional dramatisation based on witness accounts and court transcripts, happened in Kerala's and Delhi's deep forests. In order to expose the largest ivory poaching network in Indian history, the show honours the valiant efforts of Indian forest service employees, Wildlife Trust of India NGO workers, police constables, and other people who put themselves in danger. The crime series will be available in Malayalam, Hindi, and English.
