Chidambaram, who had helmed the superhit Jan.E.Man, has directed Manjummel Boys that revolves around true events set in Kodaikanal
The wait is finally set to end for all those who were anxious about Jan.E.Man director Chidambaram’s next film – Manjummel Boys. After teasing the audience with several posters, the makers finally revealed its trailer that confirms that the film is based on the rescue efforts of a Malayali youngster from Kodaikanal's Guna caves.
Even though they unveiled the trailer, the makers are yet to officially announce the release date of the film. With an ensemble cast featuring some of the most talented actors in the Malayalam film industry including Balu Varghese, Sreenath Bhasi, Arun Kurian, Ganapathy, Deepak Parambol and Soubin Shahir, along with directors Jean Paul Lal and Khalid Rahman, the movie has been a much-awaited one, and the trailer doesn’t disappoint.
The trailer showed glimpses of what the movie essentially revolves around - a survival thriller that deals with the rescue of a youngster who falls into the depth of the famed Guna Caves aka Devil's Kitchen of Kodaikanal. Sreenath Bhasi plays the youth who is trapped, while the rest of the cast form his friends circle who aid in rescuing him - despite reluctance from the authorities and delay from those who are actually responsible for saving the person.

The video also promises a visuallly engaging and edge-of-the-seat thriller, made all the more tense with Sushin Shyam's music and Shyju Khalid's frames. It's a far cry from Chidambaram's comedy entertainer Jan.E.Man, even though the friendship angle will be the aspect that could work wonders for the film when it hits theatres later in February 2024.
Chidambaram, who had previously assisted filmmakers such as Rajeev Ravi and Jayaraj, had earlier told us that Manjummel Boys revolves around travel and friendship. The movie tells the tale of a few youngsters from Manjummel in Kochi, who travel to Kodaikanal and the adventures they encounter during the trip.
A source from the team had later told us that the movie is inspired by actual events that transpired in the tourist spot of Guna caves aka Devil’s Kitchen in Kodaikanal. This particular incident that the film is inspired from stems from the fall and rescue of a Malayali youth who had plunged almost 60 feet below to the cave, with his friends taking it upon themselves to save him, while the authorities arrived.
The makers, however, are yet to officially reveal if the movie is inspired by these particular events. The team did shoot in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, along with Kochi for the film that had gone on floors early last year – for a period of 101 days.
If Manjummel Boys chooses a February 15 release date, it is expected to clash with Mammootty's period horror film Bramayugam, which also has Arjun Ashokan, Amalda Liz and Siddharth Bharathan, as well as Biju Menon's Thundu. The two films will release on February 15 and 16, respectively. If it is pushed by a week, it could release along with Biju Menon and Asif Ali's Thalavan and Dileep's Thankamani.
