Director Venu will start work on his much-anticipated project Kaapa next month. The multi-starrer, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Asif Ali and Anna Ben in the lead, is scripted by GR Indugopan and is spearheaded by FEFKA Writers Union.

The movie, which is touted to be a gangster drama, revolves around the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Act 2007 or the Goonda Act enforced to jail people who are a threat to the society. Prithviraj reportedly plays a thug in the film, which will also mark his first full-length collaboration with Manju Warrier. The duo had earlier shared screen space for one scene in Pavada.

The movie is expected to go on floors on May 20 in Thiruvananthapuram, where the film will be extensively shot. While the majority of the cast will begin shooting in May, Prithviraj is expected to join the team by June, after he returns from Jordan. The actor is currently in Algeria shooting for Blessy’s Aadujeevitham. They will move to Jordan next month to complete the film.

Kaapa, meanwhile, is produced by Dolwin Kuriakose, Jinu V Abraham and Dileesh Nair. The film’s cinematography is by Sanu Varghese with composer Justin Varghese and editor Mahesh Narayanan also being part of the stellar crew of the film. Kaapa marks the fourth directorial of Venu, who had earlier helmed Manju’s Daya, Mammootty’s Munnariyippu and Fahadh Faasil’s Carbon.

Indugopan, meanwhile, will also be scripting another upcoming Prithviraj project – Vilayath Buddha, which is helmed by Jayan Nambiar. The movie, based on the writer’s eponymous novel, will have Prithviraj essaying the role of a sandalwood smuggler.

Last year, both Mammootty and Mohanlal had released the motion poster of Kaapa through their social media pages. The poster showed the various landmarks of Thiruvananthapuram along with the sketches of the four lead characters of the film.
