Directed by Fazil, Manichitrathazhu is a psychological horror film that is a beloved classic in the Malayalam cinema industry. Originally released on December 25, 1993, the multi-starrer film starred Mohanlal, Shobana, Innocent, Nedumudi Venu, and Suresh Gopi in the key parts. Manichitrathazhu, which was first released more than 31 years ago, returned to theatres this month in 4K remastering. The film centers on an aristocratic family and their beliefs around the ghost of a Tamil dancer called "Nagavalli," who is imprisoned in the "Thekkini," a room located in the mansion's mysterious southern corner. When Nakulan, a family member who has moved to Calcutta, arrives home with his recently married wife Ganga—who is said to have released Nagavalli's ghost from the room—things take a different turn. Nakulan's best friend and eccentric but gifted psychologist, Dr Sunny Joseph, shows in to unravel the mystery behind the strange happenings in the house.
