The latest stills from Ponniyin Selvan shows Vikram's character Aditya Karikalan sporting a pattai
The makers of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan had released a new poster from the film to announce the release of the film on IMAX. One of the film's lead character Vikram, too, had shared his still from the film announcing the release of the second single. Interestingly, both the stills have Vikram sporting a vibhuti pattai (the sacred ash smeared horizontally). Earlier, a lawyer had lodged a case against the team stating that the makers were trying to misrepresent facts when Vikram's poster from the film sporting a naamam had surfaced. Cholas are said to be the followers of Lord Shiva and the sacred ash represents the Shaivite sect of Hinduism. On the other hand, the naamam represents the Vaishnava sect (the followers of Lord Vishnu). With the change, it looks like the makers have finally made the correction.
In the meantime, the film is gearing up to hit screens on September 30 in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's legendary novel of the same name. The film revolves around the early days of the Chola Prince, Arunmozhivarman. While Vikram plays Aditya Karikalan in the film, Jayam Ravi plays his younger brother, Arunmozhivarman, who went on to become Raja Raja Chozhan. Trisha plays their sister, Princess Kundavai. Karthi, on the other hand, plays the commander of the Chola army, Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays Nandini Devi.
The team is now gearing up for the launch of the album, which has been composed by AR Rahman. The first single, Ponni Nadhi, which was released earlier, has already become a hit among the audience. Cinematography is by Ravi Varman, editing is by Sreekar Prasad and Thota Tharrani has handled the art direction. The teaser of the film has already piqued the curiosity among the audience
