Mammootty’s Turbo is NOT Kottayam Kunjachan reboot; Vysakh directorial to release in May 2024

Turbo, the Mammootty-starrer helmed by Vysakh, is now nearing the final stages of shooting. Recently, writer Midhun Manuel Thomas dropped some exciting updates on the film’s release date and plot.

Mammootty is reuniting with hitmaker Vysakh after a long gap of 5 years, for his next outing Turbo. The highly anticipated project, which features the megastar of Malayalam cinema as the titular character Turbo Jose, is one of the most-awaited films of 2024. Midhun Manuel Thomas, the popular writer-director, has penned the script of the movie, which is touted to be a mass action thriller.

In a recent interview with a leading Malayalam media, writer Midhun Manuel cleared the speculations surrounding the Mammootty-starrer’s plot, and dropped a major update on its release date,

Turbo to release in May 2024

Midhun Manuel Thomas, who is currently busy promoting his next outing Abraham Ozler, opened up about the release plans for Turbo in a recent interview with Manorama Online. The writer-filmmaker revealed that the team is planning to release the highly anticipated project by May 2024. However, the release date will be finalised only after director Vysakh and the team wrap up the filming of the film, and the post-production schedule at the expected time.

Turbo is NOT Kottayam Kunjachan reboot

In another interview, Midhun Manuel Thomas also cleared the speculations on the connection between Turbo and Mammootty’s 1990 blockbuster Kottayam Kunjachan. The screenwriter confirmed that the project is not a Kottayam Kunjachan reboot or sequel. He made it clear that Turbo has absolutely no connection with the TS Suresh Babu directorial, and revolves around a different subject. Midhun Manuel Thomas also revealed that Turbo is a full-fledged action film, which also has a touch of humour.

Turbo – Here's what we know

Mammootty is playing the role of Turbo Jose, a powerful man who is on a mission, in the film. Popular Telugu actor Sunil, Kannada actor-director Raj B Shetty, Antony Varghese, and others essay the supporting roles. The final schedule shooting of the project is currently progressing in Idukki, Kerala.

Earlier, it was rumoured that Tamil actor Arjun Das is playing a key role in the film. But the latest updates suggest that the Master actor is not a part of the Turbo cast. Vishnu Sarma is the director of photography. Shameer Muhammed handles the editing. Justin Varghese composes the songs and original score. Shajie Naduvil handles the production design. Turbo is bankrolled by Mammootty himself, under his home banner Mammootty Kampany.
