The Malayalam movie had released in theatres on March 26,
Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s much-anticipated political-drama One, which hit theatres on March 26, will release on Netflix on April 27. The movie’s page was listed on the streaming service from Friday, confirming the digital release of the Santhosh Viswanath directorial.
The movie, which is scripted by award-winning duo Bobby and Sanjay, has Mammootty playing the Chief Minister of Kerala. The film marks the first time that the superstar is portraying such a role in Malayalam cinema.
The film was initially set for a release in April 2020, but the pandemic delayed it by almost a year. One was the second theatrical release of Mammootty this year, after The Priest that was also made available to watch on Amazon Prime Video from April 12.
One also boasts of an ensemble cast featuring Murali Gopy, Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan, Siddique, Gayathri Arun and Mathew Thomas of Kumbalangi Nights fame. Mammootty plays Kadakkal Chandran, an inspirational leader, who comes under attack by the opposition party after a social media post of a youngster vilifying the authorities, gains traction. How Chandran tackles the crisis and also brings the Right to Recall law to use against corrupt politicians form the plot of the film.
Interestingly, One was the first film that Mammootty had shot for after going into a 10-month-long quarantine last year due to the pandemic. He had a few portions in the end of the film pending that he had completed with his new long-haired and bearded look. This get-up, incidentally, is also featured in the movie page that is currently on Netflix.
