Jyotika and Mammootty in Kaathal-The Core

Mammootty and Jyotika’s highly anticipated Kaathal-The Core is leading the top movies list on Amazon Prime this week. The film began streaming on the platform on January 5. The movie, which is directed by Jeo Baby of The Great Indian Kitchen fame, hit the big screen on November 23.

Among the top 10 are Telugu film Calling Sahasra, Tamil films Jailer, and 80's Buildup.

Mammootty portrays Mathew Devassy, a retired bank manager and an independent candidate in the panchayat elections, in this family drama. Jyotika plays Mathew's wife, Omana, in her eagerly anticipated return to Malayalam cinema. The two portray a tumultuous couple in the film, which examines family dynamics, among other things.

Mathew is an insular homosexual who marries Omana and raises a family with her for 20 years. This picture-perfect family falls apart when she files for divorce, citing his sexual orientation. The movie's primary focus is on how people adapt to this revelation.

Mammootty’s home banner, Mammootty Kampany, has bankrolled Kaathal-The Core, and Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films has distributed the film in theatres. Joji John, Sudhi Kozhikode, Alex Alister, Anagha Akku, Chinnu Chandni, and Muthumani have also played prominent roles in this movie. Mathews Pulickan composed the music, while Salu K Thomas handled the camera work. The screenplay for this movie has been penned by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria.

The audience praised him for his performance in Kaathal-The Core. Film enthusiasts were also startled after learning about the plot synopsis of this movie on social media prior to its premiere.

However, there were differing views on this plot among netizens. Though many applauded Mammootty for his audacity in taking on such a role and his choice of scripts in recent years, the moral police were raising alarms at the mere mention of homosexuality.
