Even as Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam is continuing its successful run in theatres, setting new records by the day, another box office battle looms that will see the megastar’s much-awaited CBI 5: The Brian take on Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Jana Gana Mana.

While the makers of Dijo Jose Antony’s socio-political thriller have announced that the film will hit theatres on April 28, ahead of Eid, official announcement about CBI 5’s release date is yet to be out. However, sources say that the team will also be aiming for April 28.

With Jana Gana Mana releasing on April 28, Prithviraj’s Kaduva, which was initially slated for an Eid release , seems to have been pushed to May end. Meanwhile, Tovino Thomas’ Thallumala is another entertainer that will be looking for an Eid release this year, while Jayaram and Meera Jasmine-starrer Makal is also slated for an April 28 release.

Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam, meanwhile, has already become the megastar’s highest grossing film, crossing Rs 50 crore in earnings worldwide. The figure is expected to surge further with the film opening in the US on March 10.

The makers of CBI 5 would be hoping that the momentum works in the favour of the film too, considering that it will be Mammootty’s next theatrical release with Ratheena’s Puzhu, reported to drop directly on a streaming platform in April. CBI 5 will also have the loyal fanbase of the franchise, which turned 34 years old in 2022, turning up to see Mammootty, Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar reprise their roles as CBI Sethurama Iyer, Chacko and Vikram, respectively.

Mammootty completed shooting his portions for the film earlier this month, and is currently working on his Telugu film Agent, which has Akhil Akkineni in the lead. The makers of Surender Reddy directorial had recently unveiled the poster of his character nicknamed The Devil. The megastar has allotted 10 days for the film and is expected to be back in Kerala to begin work on Lijo Jose Pellissery’s segment in the Netflix anthology, based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories.
