The CBI series is one of the most successful franchises in Malayalam cinema. All the movies in the franchise, which stars Mammootty in the lead role, were commercial successes. The character of Sethurama Iyer, played by Mammootty, is one of the most iconic characters ever created in Malayalam films. And now, as per the reports of Reporter TV, director K Madhu has confirmed that the franchise will continue. Speaking at a function in Thiruvananthapuram, the director assured that the next film in the series will be officially announced soon.

Midhun Manuel Thomas in the next CBI film?

Reports suggest that Anjaam Pathiraa director-screenwriter Midhun Manuel Thomas may be onboarded for a CBI film . It was also rumoured that Midhun would treat the movie as a spin-off rather than a direct sequel. CBI fans will undoubtedly be excited if Midhun were to direct the next CBI installment, as SN Swamy's script for CBI 5 was criticised for logical issues and outdated writing. As the writer of a film like Anjaam Pathiraa, Midhun is undoubtedly a worthy contender to write a script for a CBI film.

CBI: A franchise that has still has potential

A film series rarely sees all its installments succeed and receive a positive response from the audience. However, the CBI series has managed to do just this. SN Swamy, who has written all the five parts of the series that starts with Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, is known for his gripping storylines and suspenseful climaxes. Despite Nerariyan CBI and CBI 5 having a weak storyline and a forced ending that didn't make much sense, both films did fairly well at the box office.

Mammootty's portrayal of Sethurama Iyer is a major factor in the success of the last two installments, which had weak scripts. Although CBI 5 initially received a positive response in theatres, it was criticised after its digital release.
