The thriller, directed by Ratheena, also has Athmiya Rajan and Nedumudi Venu
Mammootty could be set for his OTT debut with debutant director Ratheena’s Puzhu, which reportedly is heading for a direct-to-OTT release on Sony LIV. The movie, which also has Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead, is a thriller that has Mammootty playing a role with grey shades.
While it was rumoured that the megastar will be making his OTT debut with the Netflix anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories, reports suggest that the makers are in talks with Sony LIV for the release of Puzhu, which is scripted by Harshad, Sharfu and Suhas, and is expected to premiere the in the coming months. Mammootty is yet to begin shooting for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s segment in the Netflix anthology.
A source from the team, however, tells us that the Sony LIV deal is not yet confirmed and that the makers are in discussions with two OTT platforms for the movie's release. Official confirmation on Puzhu’s OTT deal is awaited, but considering that several movies such as Dulquer Salmaan’s Salute and Tovino Thomas’ Naradan deferring their releases due to the surge in COVID-19 cases, it could be the right decision from the part of the makers. Mammootty, meanwhile, also has Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam set for a theatrical release on February 24, and Lijo’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakam, which is also rumoured to hit cinema halls first.
Sony LIV has recently bagged the rights for several Malayalam films such as Senna Hegde’s award-winning Thinkalazhcha Nischayam, Joju George’s Madhuram, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli and the latest being, Rahul Sadasivan’s Bhootakalam, which has Shane Nigam and Revathy as part of the cast.
Meanwhile, Mammootty recently tested positive for COVID-19. The actor had been shooting for CBI 5 in Ernakulam for the past few weeks. He took to his social media page on Sunday to inform that despite taking all necessary precautions, he had tested positive for the coronavirus. He also posted that apart from a slight fever, he was doing fine otherwise. The shooting of K Madhu’s CBI 5 has been suspended for two weeks.
