The movie, which is directed by debutant Ratheena, was rumoured to release directly on OTTs earlier
For those who have been waiting for updates on Mammootty and Parvathy Thiruvothu’s drama-thriller Puzhu, the megastar shared the happy news that the movie has been cleared with U certificate by the censor board.
Last month, there were rumours that the makers of Puzhu were in talks with two leading OTT platforms for its release. The latest post by Mammootty seems to signify that the movie could indeed be making its way to theatres first. The film marks the directorial debut of Ratheena.
Alone with the censor certificate, the runtime of the movie has also been revealed. Puzhu will be 2 hours and 2 minutes in duration, making it one of the shortest Mammootty-starrers in recent times.
The film, which is scripted by Harshad, Sharfu and Suhas, wrapped up shoot last year, with Mammootty calling it “a progressive and ambitious film”. The film’s music director Jakes Bejoy had earlier told us that Mammootty plays a role that had grey shades , like his acclaimed character in Vidheyan , and makes best use of the performer in him.
Apart from Mammootty and Parvathy, the movie also has Nedumudi Venu, Indrans and Malavika Menon in pivotal roles. This was also Mammootty’s final movie with the late Nedumudi Venu, who had passed away last year.
Meanwhile, the actor resumed shooting for CBI 5 on Tuesday in Ernakulam. The shoot of the film was stalled for two weeks in January after Mammootty had tested positive for COVID-19. He will be reprising his role as Sethurama Iyer in the movie, which also has Kaniha, Renji Panicker, Ramesh Pisharody, Mukesh, Jagathy and Dileesh Pothan.
While Puzhu’s release date and platform are expected to be announced soon, Mammootty’s next theatrical release is expected to be Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam. The makers of the gangster thriller, which is set in the 1980s, are currently aiming at a March 3 release across the world.
