The film, which is also produced by Mammootty Kampany, has the megastar playing the role of a thief
With director Nissam Basheer’s Rorschach being pushed from an Onam release to the pooja holidays, Mammootty fans might have to go through another festive season with the megastar’s movie in theatres. However, recent reports suggest that the actor’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam could fill that gap.
While there’s yet to be an official confirmation on the release of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, earlier rumours suggested that the movie could drop directly on Sony LIV. Considering an already packed Onam season in theatres with films such as Nivin Pauly’s Padavettu, Basil Joseph’s Paaltu Janwar, Siju Wilson’s Pathonpathaam Noottandu and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Gold, this seems the likely route for the makers of the film.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which marks the first production venture under the banner Mammootty Kampany, is directed by Jallikkattu and Angamaly Diaries’ filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery. Also starring Ashokan, Ramya Pandian, Sanjana Dipu and Chethan Jayalal, the film was shot extensively in Palani, Tamil Nadu. Mammootty reportedly plays the role of a scrap dealer who is also a thief.
There were also reports that the movie will have an extended run in the film festival circuit before its release. If this is the case, the release is expected to be delayed further. Lijo’s previous movie Churuli also premiered at a film festival before it made its way to Sony LIV last year.
Meanwhile, Mammootty, who is currently shooting in Sri Lanka for Kadugannawa Oru Yatra – a segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology, also has the Telugu action-thriller Agent gearing up for release. The film, which has him as a RAW agent, is directed by Surender Shetty and has him sharing screen space with Akhil Akkineni.
The megastar has also completed shooting for Rorschach, which is touted to be a psycho-thriller. The film, which also has Sharafudheen and Grace Antony, is the second production venture from Mammootty Kampany and will go up against Mohanlal’s Monster and Suresh Gopi’s Mei Hoom Moosa when it hits theatres during the pooja festive season on September 29 or 30.
