The movie, which also has Ashokan and Ramya Pandian, had completed its shoot last year
The teasers of Mammootty’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam promised another stellar performance from the megastar. What has got fans even more excited about the movie is that it marks his first collaboration with acclaimed filmmaker Lijo Jose Pellissery, who had previously helmed Amen, Angamaly Diaries and Jallikattu.
While the initial reports suggested that the film will release in theatres only after its run in the film festival circuit, we now hear that Sony LIV has bought the streaming rights of the movie, which could be a direct-to-OTT release.
Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, which is produced by the megastar’s banner Mammootty Kampany, also has Ashokan, Ramya Pandian, Kainakary Thangaraj, Poo Ramu and Geethi Sangeethi, who was also part of Lijo’s Churuli that had released directly on Sony LIV. The movie, which has Mammootty reportedly playing a scrap dealer and a thief, had completed filming last year with Palani, Tamil Nadu, being its main location.

The second teaser of the film was lauded by the viewers, as it featured Mammootty delivering Sivaji Ganesan’s dialogue from Gauravam in a single take that lasted for over a minute. Meanwhile, Mammootty and Lijo were earlier set to team up again for a segment in the Netflix anthology that is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s stories. But now, veteran filmmaker Ranjith has come onboard for the short film, which is titled Kadugannawa Oru Yatra, while Mammootty and Lijo could be working together in a full-length movie later.
The megastar’s next theatrical release will be Nissam Basheer’s Rorschach, which is also produced by Mammootty Kampany. The thriller, which also has Sharafudheen, Grace Antony, Bindu Panciker and Jagadish, is expected to hit theatres during Onam on September 7, which incidentally is also Mammootty’s birthday. The actor is currently shooting for B Unnikrishnan’s thriller and is next expected to begin work on Puzhu director Ratheena’s movie.
