The movie is directed by debutant Ratheena Sharshad
Even as several superstars in Malayalam made their OTT debut during the pandemic, megastar Mammootty has stayed away from direct-to-OTT releases and pledged his support to theatres. The superstar seems to be continuing with that for his next big releases – Ratheena Sharshad’s Puzhu and Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam, both of which are currently in their post-production stages.
According to reports, Mammootty and Parvathy Thiruvothu-starrer Puzhu is currently looking at theatrical release during Christmas. While there are already two big movies such as Minnal Murali and Bro Daddy, which is rumoured to drop on Disney+ Hotstar, set for Christmas releases on OTTs, theatrical releases for December festive season in Kerala are yet to be announced.
Considering that theatres in Kerala have only reopened today and there are several big films set for releases, the producers and distributors would be keen on avoiding clashes of superstar-driven films for the next two months. But with the Christmas season offering good box-office draw, there could be three big films set for release.
Mammootty also has Amal Neerad’s Bheeshma Parvam, which is currently in its editing stage. The movie, which is among the most-awaited films, could be pushed to next year, depending on the box office draw of Dulquer Salmaan’s Kurup and the release date of movies such as Hridayam and Aaraattu.
The megastar, who will be shooting for Akhil Akkineni’s spy-thriller titled Agent from next month beginning, will also foray into the OTT space with director Lijo Jose Pellissery’s segment in the upcoming Netflix anthology, which is based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short story. Soon after that, he will join the sets of K Madhu’s CBI 5, in which he will reprise the iconic role of Sethurama Iyer.
