After months of speculation of a direct OTT release for Jeo Baby’s film with Mammotty and Jyothika, an official theatrical release date will be announced on November 3
Filmmaker Jeo Baby, best known for The Great Indian Kitchen, has an upcoming film with Malayalam superstar Mammootty that brings Jyothika back to the industry. Called Kaathal – The Core, the family drama was rumoured to be heading for a direct-to-OTT release for the longest time, with JioCinema supposedly having picked up the streaming rights. The rumour gained credence because Jeo’s The Great Indian Kitchen was also a direct-to-OTT film. However, Mammootty, who has also produced the film, later clarified that Kaathal – The Core will head to theatres first and that the delay in release was because of certain big-ticket titles that were hitting theatres. Kaathal has been ready for release since July this year.

Speaking during the promotions of his last release, Kannur Squad, Mamootty had clarified the theatrical release status of Kaathal – The Core, saying that streaming platforms had moved to a strategy of acquiring Malayalam films only after a theatre outing. The actor also said that films are now being made for the big screen experience. Kaathal – The Core, he added, was a family drama with a novel twist. Mammotty and Jyothika reportedly play a bickering couple in the film, the crux of which is marital conflict.

A little while ago, an official update on the actor-producer’s social media page popped up that the official release date of the film would be announced tomorrow, November 3, at 6 pm. The buzz is that the film will be in theatres on November 24, although it is also being heard that the team is looking at having it premiere at the International Film Festival of India later this month. As of now, no other Malayalam film has been announced for November 24, which should give the film the clear window it was looking for.
