Dulquer Salmaan was earlier rumoured to play Bilal in Big B’s prequel web series
Fans are eagerly anticipating the reunion of Mammootty and Amal Neerad, as they have previously collaborated on successful films like Big B and Bheeshmaparvam. Although it was earlier speculated that they would work together again in Bilal there have been no recent updates regarding the film’s progress. Instead, new reports suggest that Mammootty and Amal are preparing to collaborate on a new project.
Social media buzz
Taking to social media, RFT Films (the UK distributors of Malayalam cinema) recently said that some details about the new project will be revealed on September 7, which coincides with Mammootty’s birthday. Social media discussions suggest that the film may be a sequel to Big B while other sources hint that it may be a different project, featuring another actor alongside Mammootty. After RFT Films’ post on X, Mammootty’s friend George Sebastian shared a photo of Mammootty’s character in Bheeshmaparvam on Instagram. George posted a photo of Michael Anjooti, who had a character arc in the film worthy of a spin-off.
What happened to Bilal
Meanwhile, Bilal was supposed to go on floors in March 2020, as the team had completed the pre-production work. But the movie required shooting in several foreign locations and the pandemic hindered it. Later, Mammootty and Amal decided to do Bheesmaparvam which became one of the biggest commercial hits in 2021. There were also rumours that Amal and Dulquer Salmaan will be doing Big B’s prequel web series. Dulquer, however, refrained himself from commenting on it.
Mammootty’s upcoming projects
Currently, Mammootty is shooting for horror thriller Bramayugam helmed by Bhoothakaalam director Rahul Sadasivan. According to reports, the Malayalam superstar will play a sorcerer in the film, who lives with snakes. Bramayugam is bankrolled by YNOT Studios, and it also features Arjun Ashokan, Sidharh Bharathan, and Amalda Liz in prominent roles. Among Mammootty’s other upcoming releases is Kannur Squad directed by Roby Varghese Raj. It’s an investigative drama film produced by Mammootty Kampany. Kannur Squad is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 28. Another Mammootty Kampany production, Kaathal - The Core is also ready for release. The Jeo Baby directorial is a romantic feel-good drama film, also starring Jyothika.
