These Malayalam films will have a theatrical, OTT release on Independence Day

A few of much-awaited Malayalam films, including multi-starrer Manorathangal, will be released on Independence Day (August 15) in theatres and online.

Even though there were not many films released in theatres in July, there are a number in August that are certain to grab audiences' attention. In the interim, a few of these Malayalam films will be released on Independence Day (August 15) in theatres.

Malayalam releases on August 15

Nunakuzhi (Theatrical)

The movie's poster and teaser featured comical yet nervous facial expressions of the lead characters, creating an expectation that viewers would be in for a thrilling experience in theatres. Director Jeethu Joseph revealed during one of his media appearances that Nunakuzhi is a dark comedy, which stars Basil Joseph and Grace Antony in lead roles.

Vaazha (Theatrical)

August 15 is when the Anand Menen-directed movie Vaazha is set to premiere in theatres. The director of Guruvayoorambala Nadayil, Vipin Das, wrote the script for Vaazha. Among Vaazha's principal cast members are social media celebrities Saafboi, Amith, Anuraj OB, Anu, Mohan Rajeswari, and Joemon Jyothir. The teaser revealed that the film centres on a group of reckless youths.

Manorathangal (ZEE5)

A Malayalam anthology film titled Manorathangal will make its digital debut on ZEE5 on August 15. The project will be available in Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. OTTplay Premium subscribers will also have access to the film, which features Mohanlal, Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil, Biju Menon, and Asif Ali. The well-known works of renowned author M T Vasudevan Nair serve as the basis for the anthology.

Adios Amigo (Theatrical)

Following the landslides in Wayanad, the release of Adios Amigo was delayed. Though the makers have not confirmed the release date, it is expected to hit the big screen on August 15. The film is billed as a full-fledged comedy drama. Two complete strangers go on a journey together in the film, and they ultimately become friends.

Footage (Theatrical)

This film features appearances by Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok. Although the producers have not officially announced the new release date, August 15 is anticipated to be the big screen debut. According to the teaser, the movie will introduce a number of cutting-edge storytelling techniques to Malayalam cinema. The plot of the thriller Footage centres on the lives of an inquisitive young couple.
