The 33-year-old actress was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour nine years ago.
Popular Malayalam actor Saranya Sasi passed away today afternoon at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, after a nine-year battle with a rare form of brain tumour. She was 33. The actress, who had contracted and recovered from COVID-19 earlier this year, was admitted to a hospital due to pneumonia and post COVID-19 complications.
Saranya Sasi had been diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2012 after collapsing on a set and had subsequently undergone 11 surgeries to treat it, being bedridden for months as a result. Several of the star’s fans and friends in the industry had also helped out to fund the cost of the surgeries.
The actress was a well-known face in Malayalam TV serials, making her mark in Balachandra Menon’s TV series back in 2006. She has also been a part of popular serials such as Harichandanam, Karuthamuthu, Kanakkuyil, Manasa Myna, Manthrakodi and Rahasyam, to name a few. She has also appeared in Tamil serials as well and has starred in a Telugu series called Swathi as well. Her film debut also came in the same year with the action film Chacko Randaaman. She also acted in Chotta Mumbai and Thalappavu.
She had also started a Youtube channel seven months ago called CityLights- Sharanya’s Vlog. The channel featured a variety of content such as cookery videos, the actress’ updates of her life featuring other members of her family.
The actress was also very close with Malayalam tele-star Seema as well, who also shared updates on the actress’ life periodically.
