The film has Malavika teaming up with Chiyaan Vikram, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathi in the lead. The story is said to be inspired from a real-life incident that took place in the Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. Pa Ranjith had stated in an interview that the film was an attempt to tell the story of an oppressed community and to gain respect for them, which has long been overdue.
