With Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Malaikottai Vaaliban a number of artistes from different industries make their Malayalam debuts. Bengali actress Katha Nandi is one of them; she has a major role in this highly anticipated pan-Indian film.
She described herself as fortunate to be a part of such a large project in a conversation with OTTplay. She went on to describe her character as a strong woman who, by the end of the movie, would win everyone over. Katha Nandi said that this movie is a turning point in her career and thanked P S Rafeeque for developing such a charming character.
"I just put myself in her shoes and did not do much else to become this character. Furthermore, all of the performers in this movie were given ample time and space to develop into their roles under Lijo Sir's direction," the actress added.
Actress Katha Nandi, who has also appeared in the Tamil film Thalaikoothal, expressed her surprise and confusion upon learning that she had been cast in Malaikottai Valiban. "Lijo sir contacted me for this project after seeing my Instagram photos. I respect the works of Lijo Sir and Mohanlal Sir. It is an honour to be in their movie, so I jumped at the chance to be a part of it," she remarked.
The actress also related a time when she asked Lijo what he thought she should bring to the role, and he told her to use her eyes to convey emotion. The first music video for ‘Punnara Kattile Poovanatthil,’ which was released in December of last year, featured Katha Nandi.
"Every member of the crew and cast was present to assist me with the language barriers on set. In order to learn about the dialect and other linguistic quirks, we also attended a workshop organised by the makers of Malaikottai Vaaliban," she continued.
Katha Nandi expressed her love for South Indian cinema because of the content, acting, and cultural aspects it portrays. Even before I started working on Malaikottai Vaaliban I was a devoted fan of Malayalam films. The people here are really friendly, and there is always something new to discover in the films here," she remarked.
She continued by saying that because Malayalam films are not usually released in her state, she has to wait for an OTT release in order to see them. "I truly hope I can work in the South more often. Someday, I hope to collaborate with Dhanush and Mammootty sir," she said.
