Journey's BTS video out; director Cheran strives to bring out the best in artistes

The making video of Cheran’s upcoming Tamil web series Journey has been released by the producers. SonyLiv will begin streaming the nine-episode web series on January 12.

The one-minute video shows Cheran instructing the actors and crew members during the filming of the project. Additionally, he is seen urging artists to include more emotional elements and jokingly threatening to make them run around the ground.

The director, who has also penned the screenplay, is making his debut in the OTT space with Journey. The web series is expected to live up to the high standards set by Cheran's earlier works, which were notable for their performances and the subjects they addressed.

The talented cast of Cheran's Journey includes R Sarathkumar, Prasanna, Kalaiyarasan, Divyabharathi, Kashyap Barbhaya, Aari Arujunan, Jayaprakash, Jasmine Metivier, Ilavarasu, Naren, Anju Kurian, Vela Ramamoorthi, and Bharani.

The web series has been bankrolled by Gunasekar N and Dhakshinamoorthy K under the banner of COMPASS 8 FILMS. The background score and songs in this series have been composed by Sathya C. Ekhambaram N K is the cinematographer, while K J Venkataraman is handling the editing work for Journey.

The trailer of the web series was released on December 30. It hinted at an intriguing project that revolves around five candidates selected for a position in a company owned by Sarathkumar’s character. These shortlisted candidates are Nitesh Gupta (Kashyap Barbhaya), Raghav Isakkimuthu (Prasanna), Latha Vijayakumar Reddy (Divyabharathi), Ameer Sulthan (Kalaiyarasan), and S Pranav (Aari Arujunan). If they want to be considered for this role, they also need to have a perfect record.

Because of the subjects' continued relevance and their simple storytelling style, Cheran's earlier works continue to receive high praise from critics and an enthusiastic following. The box office successes of his career are Bharathi Kannamma (1997), Porkkaalam (1997), Autograph (2004), and Thavamai Thavamirundhu (2005), which he directed.

Sarathkumar had a busy 2023 with 10 films, including Bandra (Malayalam), Por Thozhil (Tamil), Bhagavanth Kesari (Telugu), and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: II (Tamil). Prasanna appeared in Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha and Udhayanidhi Stalin’s crime thriller film Kannai Nambathey.
