Adivi Sesh’s magnum opus, Major, the biopic of army man Sandeep Unnikrishnan, has released to a blockbuster response all over the country. The film has impressed critics and audiences and the aggressive pre-release marketing has paid off big time. The first day collections of Major is five times more than what the actor’s previous release, Evaru, had earned.

Major’s success meet was held in Hyderabad during which Adivi Sesh proved his reverence for army personnel. “This is the biggest film in my career by all means - financially and emotionally. I don’t want to trivialise the impact of the film by discussing its financials. My phone has crashed so many times since yesterday and I’m flooded with calls and messages all over,” he said.

He shared that he was missing the presence of Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s parents and writer Abburi Ravi at the event. “Abburi Ravi is my guru and he helped me steer the film in a particular direction, when there could have been so many ways to tell Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s story under two hours. He lead a special life and Abburi garu helped us tell the story in the best possible way,” Sesh shared.

“I’ve been talking to Sandeep’s parents everyday prior to the film’s release and I haven’t been able to catch up with them in the last two days. I shall do so immediately after the success meet is done. I miss their presence at the event,” he added. Sesh stated that his efforts to celebrate the life and story of Sandeep Unnkrishnan had just begun and there’s a lot more that he aspires to do.

“I’ve heard that the film is inspiring many to serve the Indian army. Though this is just a thought now, I am hereby making a ‘Major’ promise of providing financial help to NDA aspirants through an initiative named after Sandeep Unnikrishnan himself. We may start the idea with ten people today but I’m sure the initiative will benefit crores one day,” Sesh mentioned.

The Kshanam actor thanked the film’s crew and dedicated the success of the film to his parents. Major, written by Adivi Sesh, is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. The film is jointly produced by A+S Movies, GMB Entertainment and Sony Pictures. Netflix has acquired the film’s post-theatrical streaming rights.
