The film Maidaan starring Ajay Devgn will be released this Eid. The story and the backdrop are set in Bengal and many actors are also from the state. Football is the central theme in the film. However, it will not be released in the Bengali language. Many people thought that this would be dubbed in Bengali but that is not happening. The film will be released in Hindi.

The film is the biopic of the famous Football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Ajay Devgn plays the protagonist. The film stars Rudranil Ghosh in an important role. Rudranil gave an interview to TV 9 Bangla and explained why the film is not dubbed in Bengali. The actor said, “Many people’s emotions are involved with the film. The film will be released in three languages other than Hindi. These are the languages of South India whose people don't understand Hindi well. However, Bengali people understand Hindi and love seeing Hindi films. Also, Maidaan does not mean Kolkata’s Maidaan here, but rather Football's playground. It tells the story of how India became a superpower under the coaching and leadership of Syed Abdul Rahim.”

Rudranil further added, “Indian Football Federation’s office was in Kolkata at that time. The poster has a touch of Bengal. It mentions tram and Lili Biscuit.”

Rudranil said, “All Hindi Films perform well in Bengal. Films like Pathaan, Dunki, and Animal did good business. Many films shooting are done here. When Shah Rukh Khan speaks in Bengali, people have no problem understanding that. It will not happen here also.” However, he said that lots of Bengali dialogues are included in the film.
