Mumbai's Police Commissioner, Vinod Talwar, assigns Bangalore-based Police Inspector Amar the task of finding the killer(s) of businessman Khanna. Amar is a reformed juvenile with a conviction for knifing a guy. It doesn't take long for Amar to figure out that his childhood friend Raja Lokhande (Nagarjuna Akkineni) is the one responsible. As he tries to help Raja change, he faces ridicule and loses control of his life. Then, he gets an ultimatum to kill not only Raja but also Surya (Irfan Kamal)—his childhood sweetheart Pooja's (Pooja Bhatt) sister—and Jaggu (Paresh Rawal)—Raja's brother. Meanwhile, the underworld, headed by Lala Roshanlal (Gulshan Grover), wants him to prove himself by eliminating a police inspector from Naigaon Police Station.
Madhu Ramesh Behl produced it under the Rose Movies Combines label, drawing inspiration from the Hollywood film State of Grace. Robin Bhatt, Javed Siddiqui, and Akash Khurana wrote the screenplay for Angaaray. Anu Malik and Aadesh Shrivastava composed the music for the film.
In his 2003 film Footpath Mahesh Bhatt recycled the same concept once more. The Vikram Bhatt directorial marked Emraan Hashmi's acting debut. The film also featured an ensemble cast including Aftab Shivdasani, Irrfan Khan, Bipasha Basu, and Rahul Dev.
