The OTT release of Mahesh Babu's Guntur Kaaram was special as it landed on Netflix within one month of its theatrical release on January 12, 2024. Guntur Kaaram started streaming on February 9, 2024, and has topped the charts since then. The Telugu version is clocking millions of viewing minutes but now the Hindi version has also made headlines.
We have come to know that the Hindi version has clocked 2,800,000 watch hours in its first week. Now, things have gone to another level as the Trivikram directorial has clocked 4,800,000 hours in its second week and has entered the top ten non-English categories for the week of February 12 to 18, 2024. This shows what kind of craze Mahesh Babu has in the country.
Guntur Kaaram is a film that has been talked about ever since it was released. Directed by Trivikram, the film featured Mahesh Babu in a very massy role after a long time. Though the film took a fabulous opening and even made Rs 100 crore at the box office, it ended as an average fare at the box office due to its budget and high pre-release business. A few areas also saw massive losses for the action drama.
The news is that the OTT rights to the film were bagged for a handsome amount. Haarika and Haasine Entertainments produced this film, which had Sreeleela and Meenakshi Chaudhary as the female leads. Guntur Kaaram is about a mother-son story and has Prakash Raj in a key role.
The film received massive criticism for Trivikram's work. He was criticised big-time for narrating a routine story with a big star like Mahesh Babu. Even the likes of Paruchuri Gopalakrishna the legendary writer in Telugu cinema, slammed the actor for accepting such a poor script.
The songs in Guntur Kaaram were good hits and the Kurchi Madatapetti song has already clocked 100 million views on YouTube. Mahesh Babu's performance was appreciated a lot, as he played this village guy with swag and impressed his fans big time.
Guntur Kaaram is also Mahesh Babu's 7th 100 crore film in a row and now the way it is grabbing the attention of Netflix shows what kind of stardom he has in the country. He is now busy preparing for his next film with Rajamouli. The action drama will go on floors by this year's end.
