Dakota Johnson

Dakota Johnson, best known for her breakout role in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, has seamlessly transitioned into diverse and critically acclaimed projects. After captivating audiences with her portrayal of Anastasia Steele, Johnson has impressed with her versatility in films like The Lost Daughter (2021) and Persuasion (2022). These roles showcased her range, demonstrating her ability to move beyond her initial blockbuster success and tackle complex characters with variation and depth. This evolution has garnered her critical acclaim for her acting prowess and solidified her position as a rising star in Hollywood.

This huge recognition has helped her become the famous Marvel superhero character Madame Web. This is the first time the actress will be doing a superhero role, and that too for Marvel Cinematic Universe. But despite such achievement, what made Dakota so irritated that she had to call the industry “bleak”?

What irritated Dakota Johnson?

Well, in a recent interview with L'Officiel, Dakota Johnson expressed frustration with Hollywood's deliberate ignorance of challenging projects. While recalling her last film, Daddio, which premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in 2023, she talked about the immense and significant effort invested in making the film. However, despite starring alongside Oscar-winner Sean Penn, the film's lack of wider recognition surprised and disappointed her. This experience appears to have fueled her criticism of the industry's current offerings.

According to her, people in Hollywood are afraid to make challenging projects. She also pointed out the streaming platforms and said that they don't support creative people. They will mostly release much-hyped films and shows. This breaks her heart, as she wants to do something unique and different, unlike the mainstream projects.

Dakota Johnson on the 'nepo baby' tagline

Dakota also talked about how the ‘nepo baby’ tagline used to affect her in the beginning. For the uninitiated, Dakota Johnson is the daughter of famous veteran actors Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. Initially, she found it hurtful, but now she has developed a witty response. During a recent Saturday Night Live appearance, she playfully challenged journalists to focus on their work instead of reductive labels, suggesting they write something interesting rather than demeaning them with such nasty taglines.
