The multi-lingual film has debutant Zaid Khan and Sonal Monteiro in the lead
Filmmaker Jayathirtha, best known for projects like Beautiful Manasugalu and Bell Bottom, among many others, has been busy working on the launch vehicle of Zaid Khan, the son of Karnataka politico, Zameer Ahmed Khan. Called Banaras, the romantic drama pairs Zaid with Sonal Monteiro. Speaking to an online publication, Jayathirtha has been quoted as saying that Banaras is a poignant love story that takes a profound look at people and relationships in the backdrop of Kashi. According to reports, the film was shot extensively in Kashi, including the 64 ghats. The filmmaker had said that he chose Kashi as the backdrop of his film because he’d been bowled over by the sights and sounds it offered when he’d been there to shoot his first film, Olave Mandara.
Banarasa has been made as a pan-India film with versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. However, the first song from the film that they are gearing up to reveal will be out in Kannada and Malayalam only. Composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, the video song Maaya Gange, featuring Zaid and Sonal, will be released in Kannada and Malayalam on June 27.
Zaid incidentally had announced his intention to get into cinema way back in 2016 with a film that was to be directed by Indrajit Lankesh.
Jayathirtha, meanwhile, has an interesting slate of upcoming projects. While the filmmaker will soon begin work on Bell Bottom 2, which will reunite Rishab Shetty and Hariprriya, with Tanya Hope joining in as the new cast member, he will also do a film with Dhanveerraah, called Kaiva. It has been reported earlier that Jayathirtha will launch Kiccha Sudeep’s nephew Sanchith Sajeev and has been working on the script for the same. He is also a part of an upcoming Kannada anthology, which features segments by Pawan Kumar, Yogaraj Bhat, KM Chaitanya, Shashank and Jayathirtha.
