The film, helmed by Madonne Ashwin has grossed Rs 75 crore at the box office
Ever since Sivakarthikeyan's Maaveeran hit screens, the film has been receiving steady footfalls in the theatres. The latest we hear is that the political fantasy helmed by Madonne Ashwin has grossed Rs 75 crore at the box office and that it's gradually inching towards Rs 100 crore at the box office. The makers Shanthi Talkies thanked the fans and the audience for making the film a massive hit. Fans, needless to say, are in celebratory mode.
Maaveeran, which was released in Telugu as Maaveerudu, stars Sivakarthikeyan, Mysskin, Aditi Shankar, Yogi Babu, Sunil, Saritha, Monisha Blessy, Semmalar Annam, Balaji Sakthivel. Music for the film is by Bharath Shankar, cinematography by Vidhu Ayyanna and editing by Philomin Raj.
The film's plot revolves around a timid cartoonist from a lower middle class family. who receives an unusual power overnight, which changes his life altogether. This is the first time that Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Sethupathi have come together for the film. (Vijay Sethupathi has provided the voiceover for the super hero character Maaveeran) The film opened to positive reviews from the critics and audience.
OTTplay critic, P Sangeetha wrote in her review, "Madonne Ashwin's Maaveeran is laced with a gripping screenplay, hilarious one-liners, mass moments and some fantastic performances. While the role of Sathya seems to be tailor-made for Sivakarthikeyan, Yogi Babu, Mysskin and Saritha's performances, too, pack a punch. And needless to say, Vijay Sethpathi's voiceover elevates the film to a different level. In short, Maaveeran is a delight to watch."

In the meantime, Sivakarthikeyan has resumed the shoot for his upcoming project, which is tentatively being referred to as SK 21. The film is helmed by Rajkumar Periyasamy and marks Sivakarthikeyan's maiden collaboration with Sai Pallavi. The shoot is currently underway in Kashmir. SK 21 is bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's production house, Raaj Kamal Films International.
