Before Maamannan's theatrical release, it was announced that Netflix had acquired its digital rights. The film opened to positive reviews and critics hailed the performances of Vadivelu and Fahadh. Though many pointed out that the project is Mari Selvaraj's weakest work, they did acknowledge its positive aspects.

It started streaming on Netflix a few days ago. Interestingly, the antagonist character essayed by Fahadh Faasil is now being glorified on social media platforms. Though many reasons are attributed to the same, it is widely believed that the actor's calibre and weak protagonist design have played a major role in it.

Many are tagging Mari in their posts to inform him how his efforts have been spoiled by netizens after the movie's OTT release. However, Mari seems to be pleased with the film's reception. He has taken to his Twitter page to express excitement over its performance on the digital platform.

Maamannan is trending at numero uno position in India and he can't be happier. A few of the film's characters and dialogues are trending on social media and cinephiles are comparing it with Mari's previous works. The social drama went on to become the highest grosser in Udhayanidhi's acting career.

In all probability, the movie is expected to be the last outing of Udhay as an actor. He announced the same much before the film's release. His Angel, the long-pending project, is yet to see the light of day. It isn't sure when the movie will hit the screens.
