What is Maamanithan about?
The plot revolves around a humble auto driver, who has a content life with his wife and two children, but hopes to make it better and enrol his children in a private school. And to make his wish happen, he gets into a deal with a real estate developer. But when he is cheated by him, he has to leave his family behind and go after the fraudster in order to save his family.
Cast and their characters in Maamanithan
Vijay Sethupathi plays Radhakrishnan, an honest auto driver and Gayathrie plays his loving wife Savithri. Shaji Chen plays the antagonist Madhavan, a real estate developer who ends up cheating Radhakrishnan and flees with the money. Guru Somasundaram plays Ismail, a friend of Radhakrishnan. The rest of the star cast comprises Jewel Mary, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu, Manasvi Kottachi and Saravana Sakthi.

The film is directed by Seenu Ramasamy, who had earlier teamed up with Vijay Sethupathi in Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, Dharma Durai and the yet-to-be-released Idam Porul Yaeval. Maamanithan is bankrolled by Yuvan Shankar Raja under his banner YSR Productions banner. The shoot was predominantly canned in Theni and certain portions were shot in Pannaipuram village, which incidentally happens to be the birthplace of Ilaiyaraaja.
The music of Maamanithan
The film marks the first collaboration of Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, and his sons, composers Karthik Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja for a film. Yuvan, who had doubled up as the producer, had stated that the collaboration with his father and brother had made the journey a beautiful and meaningful one. The album comprises four songs - Thattiputta (sung by Ilaiyaraja), Ye Rasa (sung by Yuvan Shankar Raja), Pannapurathu (sung by Raja Bhavatharini and Sriram Parthasarathy) and Enna Nadakkuthu (sung by Muthu Sirpi). While the lyrics for the first three songs are by Pa Vijay, Enna Nadakkuthu has lyrics by Karunakaran.
