Maadathy on NeeStream after court order against social media piracy

In what's certainly a first for a home-grown OTT platform in the country, NeeStream has released a Tamil film titled Maadathy, backed by a court order that guards the film's content against social media piracy. Piracy across social media platforms like Telegram and other platforms like Movierulz, Tamilrockers have become a menace for OTT platforms but little was done to protect their content from illegal streaming to date.

Delhi High Court had given the interim order to the platform after it had filed a case against piracy on social media platforms. The director of NeeStream Creations Private Limited, Manu Abraham, opines this is an important step in their fight to end piracy, which has given nightmares to many producers, content creators across the country. Leena Manimekalai has co-written, directed and produced Maadathy under her home banner Karuvachy Films. Semmalar Annam, Ajmina Kassim and Patrick Raj play pivotal roles in the same.

Maadathy charts the journey of a young girl from a marginalised community, addressing burning issues like gender parity, caste bias. The film earned immense praise across international film festivals and was also honoured with FIPRESCI's (International Federation of Film Critics) Jury Award and other categories including Best Film, Best Actress and Best Cinematographer at the Aurangabad International Film Festival held in 2020. It was also screened at Busan International Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival and Third Eye Asian Film Festival to name a few.
