Noted producer Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana has acquired the rights for the Telugu film
Ram Gopal Varma, who manages to stay in the news for every reason beyond his films, has a new film release in the coming weeks. The romantic thriller starring Naina Ganguly and Apsara Rani is titled Dangerous in four languages (Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam) except for Telugu, where it's referred to as Maa Ishtam. Labelled a pan-Indian movie by the makers, the rights of the Telugu version Maa Ishtam have been acquired by noted producer Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana.
Maa Ishtam is all set to hit theatres on April 8. Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana and Ram Gopal Varma had earlier also associated for another film titled Ice Cream, featuring Navdeep and Tejaswi Madiwada in the lead. Maa Ishtam will release simultaneously along with the Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam versions. The producers say it's one of the first mainstream films in Telugu cinema to completely revolve around a lesbian couple.
The film intends to tell that love has no barriers and revolves around a couple, whose relationship invites a lot of trouble into their lives. The trailer of Maa Ishtam was launched earlier this week. "Their affair killed many, including cops and gangsters," the caption underneath the title reads. RGV's last releases were Ladki: Enter the Girl Dragon and 12 'O' Clock. Maa Ishtam's film's major competitor in the Telugu land will be the sports drama Ghani, starring Varun Tej, Saiee Manjrekar in the lead.
