It is a bittersweet moment for fans of Tom Ellis’ Lucifer as they have to say goodbye to their beloved devil. Netflix released the sixth and final season of the fantasy supernatural series on Tuesday that posed a lot of questions for the audience.

The finale of the fifth season had Lucifer preparing himself to become God, after the biblical war which was the crux of the season. Yet, we see in the recently-released trailer that he is hesitant to be one. But most importantly we start to wonder why is Det. Chloe Decker (Lauren German) holding Azarael’s blade to Lucifer’s neck, which is considered to be one of the few weapons that can eliminate the devil.

Let’s start off by talking about Lucifer becoming God in the finale of season 5. His hesitancy to be so, according to the trailer can only mean that he is deducing the immense load of responsibilities that is weighed on him. Which is also the reason he can’t seem to leave the couch of his therapist Dr Linda (Rachael Harris). His dilemma in this ordeal seems to take a toll on the world, as it is beginning to unravel without a God. We also find out that Lucifer is still being hunted by the angel Rory.

Tom Ellis shed more light into what is going on in Lucifer’s mind during the Comic-Con@Home panel that took place last month by saying, “He did convince himself of a lot of things in season 5, but when something you think about actually happens, it often feels very different. That’s the kind of conundrum Lucifer finds himself in season 6.”

The final season of Lucifer will premiere on Netflix on September 10.
