Jim Sarbh is criminally under-rated. Watch these movies and tell us if you agree
You might know of actor Jim Sarbh for his eclectic roles in films such as Neerja, Padmavat and ZEE5’s most recent biographical series Rocket Boys on SonyLiv. In the show, he portrays the nuclear physicist and Nobel Prize nominee Homi Jehangir Bhabha. His impressive screen presence and nuanced performance certainly help him stand out, even when he does minor supporting roles (for instance, the minor yet memorable role he played in Sanju). So, we’ve decided to dig deeper and enlist five of his other relatively unknown works that deserve due credit.
Teen Aur Aadha (Netflix)
Teen Aur Aadha is a drama flick with an unconventional plot. It is a beautifully layered story of a house and its inhabitants across three different eras. Jim plays the role of Natraj, a misfit who struggles to find his ground in the world. He comes across Sulekha at a brothel who seems to share the same insecurities as him. Despite hailing from polar-opposite worlds, they find commonalities. But this barely prepares the viewer for what is to follow.
Jonaki (Netflix)
If you like unorthodox storylines, you shouldn’t miss out on Jonaki. It is a hauntingly beautiful drama that depicts the story of an elderly woman on her deathbed. As her days wither away, she finds herself slipping into a rotting world of adoration where she meets her lover, played by Jim Sarbh. He represents the kind of love she yearned for all her life. What follows are metaphorical events that will stay with you for days to come.
Sometimes, I Think About Dying
Sometimes, I Think About Dying is not your average romantic drama. It features the story of a young woman, Fran, who often fantasises about death. She spends most of her time drowning in existential crisis until she meets Robert, played by Jim. He is a strikingly confident man from her office who tries his best to get to know her. But if dating him would make her want to live, will she go ahead with it? Watch this movie on YouTube or Mubi to find out.
Taish (Zee5)
Taish is an action thriller with a slight twist. It revolves around two best friends, Sunny and Rohan, played by Pulkit Samrat and Jim Sarbh, respectively. As the duo prepares for Rohan’s younger brother’s wedding, they cross paths with a ruthless crime lord. The encounter sparks a series of violent events that will fuel your adrenaline.
A Death in the Gunj (Amazon Prime Video)
Saving the best for last, A Death in the Gunj is a gripping drama film directed by the immensely talented Konkana Sen Sharma. Brian McKenzie (Sarbh) and his friend Nandu (played by Gulshan Devaiah) discover a dead body inside the trunk of their car. As the duo decide how to respond to the peculiar situation, the film rewinds to he events a week earlier, depicting the series of unfortunate events that led to this singular turn.
