A still from Love Today
Kollywood has had many surprises this year with regard to box office performance. However, what left many baffled was the response to Pradeep Ranganathan's Love Today which was released in theatres on November 4. The rom-com, which has the filmmaker-turned-actor playing the lead, has turned out to be the biggest Tamil hit in 2022 in terms of profit.
His performance, along with others, including Ivana, Radhika Sarathkumar, Raveena Ravi and Sathyaraj, impressed the audience. Yuvan Shankar's background score, Pradeep E Ragav's editing and Dinesh Purushothaman's cinematography, too, earned praise from critics and film lovers.
The movie is said to have grossed more than 70 crores after its 25 days of theatrical run. The film was released in Telugu states on Friday under the same title and has been drawing audiences, thanks to its positive word of mouth. A video featuring a movie buff who caught up with the film in Hyderabad expressing his love for Pradeep has been doing the rounds on social media.
It's been a long time since a movie has attracted young, college-going audiences, and the trade attributes this reason for the film's huge success. Pradeep has become a star and a bankable director overnight because of the project's gargantuan performance at the box office.
Love Today is now set for its OTT premiere. The film will drop on Netflix on December 2. However, the movie will be released only in Tamil language. Its Telugu OTT release has been postponed to a different date considering its recent theatrical outing.
AGS Entertainment has bankrolled the film which was presented by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies across Tamil Nadu.
