Hansal Mehta’s highly anticipated series, Lootere, starring Rajat Kapoor, is about an Indian ship that was hijacked by Somalian pirates. Set to make its global premiere on March 22, 2024, on Disney+ Hotstar, the thriller drama series is directed by Hansal’s son Jay Mehta.

Plot
As the name of the series suggests, Lootere unravels the unfortunate tale of an Indian ship that was hijacked by Somalian pirates. The series builds a parallel storyline of a rich businessman, played by Vivek Gomber, who attempts to reach the ship, negotiates with the pirate and tries to earn his money back, while saving the lives of Indian passengers on the deck.

The trailer gives us an account of the pirate attack on the Indian ship in the middle of the ocean. The narrative of the attack weaves with the storyline of a rich Indian-origin businessman who does not want the ship to reach its desired location. With a thrilling sound score, the trailer is enough to build anticipation and keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Inspired by a real-life ship attack, the trailer gives us a sneak peek into the action sequences that take place on board the ship.

Speaking about the ‘pirate-themed show’, Hansal once said that working with Jai in his capacity as an independent director and collaborating with Disney+ Hotstar for the first time was a terrific experience. "With this show, our attempt is to bring a story of power and greed spiralling into an international hijacking crisis and the attempts of the crew to escape it. The story is bound to take the audience on an emotional as well as a thrilling adventure,” he said.
