Lock Upp
The apex court refused to entertain a petition filed against Alt Balaji requesting to stop streaming the reality show, hosted by Kangana Ranaut. The plea, filed by Pride Media, claimed copyright infringement by the makers of the show and stated that the show should be stopped streaming on OTT platforms, YouTube and other social media platforms.
The matter was earlier heard by Telangana High Court and an order was issued on February 26. The court had set aside the ad-interim injunction application, meaning the show temporarily be restrained from streaming until the final verdict by the court. The Supreme Court bench of Justices MR Shah and BV Nagarathna asked the petitioner to approach the trial courts for an early hearing with regards to their petition. According to NDTV, the bench said, "It will be open to the petitioner to move the trial court for expeditious disposal of the plea."

The petitioner, Pride Media claims that they had come up with the concept of a 'jail' and planned for the show with 22 celebrities. They claimed to have also prepared a script for the show to run for 100 days. They also said that they had registered the story with 'Screen Writers Association' but the production of the show got delayed due to the COVID-19 and the pandemic-induced lockdown rules.
The High Court had observed that Alt Balaji had already produced the show and spent a huge amount of money on its marketing. The statement by the court further read, "Unless and until it is established that the concept of both shows is similar, and in fact, the concept of 'Lockupp reality show' was copied from the story of the concept of 'The Jail', it cannot be said that it will prejudice the rights of the respondents."
