Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui has been confirmed as the second contestant on Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming show Lock Upp. His name has been associated with the show after Nisha Rawal was confirmed as the first contestant on Lock Upp. Munawar is tagged as ‘inmate number 2’ in the video shared by makers of the show.

In the video, Munawar could be seen hosting one of his stand-up comedy sessions. He was picked up from the show and brought into a prison, where the comedian was ‘locked up’.

Munawar has been charged for ‘joke gone wrong’. For the uninitiated, he made headlines back in 2021 after the Bengaluru police station denied him permission to host a stand-up comedy show.

The comedian was charged for hurting Hindu sentiments during one of his shows. Hindu right-wings even protested against him, which has affected Munawar’s career greatly.

His show, which had already sold 600 tickets, was cancelled. The comic had to scrap the show since he received threats of venue vandalism. Later, Munawar donated the money to late Kannada star Puneeth Rajkumar’s charitable organization.

Not just that, Munawar has also claimed that 12 of his shows did not take off in the past two months. These shows had to be called off because of the constant threats for venue vandalism.

Lock Upp will be hosted by Kangana Ranaut. Nisha and Munawar are the confirmed contestants of the show so far. They, along with other contestants, will have to behave according to Kangana’s orders for the next 72 days.

AltBalaji’s Ekta Kapoor had revealed that according to the format of the show, Kangana will dictate orders to the contestants 24x7, as they remain locked up in one place. This is the second time when Ekta and Kangana collaborate after Judgementall Hai Kya.

Lock Upp will start streaming from February 27. The show will be available 24x7 and can be viewed on both AltBalaji and MX Player.
